Hey there, I’m John. 👋🏼
I’m a Product/UX Designer with the goal of improving people’s lives. My work surrounds building relationships with users, stakeholders, and the members of my internal team to build the best products possible. Through that approach, I have launched mobile apps, created design systems for multiple internal platforms, worked on the full SDLC process, and worked cross-functionally with engineers to build greenfield applications and new features for existing applications.
After moving several times across the world as a child, I developed a strong desire to connect with others and to share stories and experiences with them. Initially, I focused that desire through photography and theatre, but as I worked in the IT industry, my desire grew to wanting to build products that we could all share as one.
Outside of design, I am very passionate about theatre (I majored in it in college), photography/videography, coffee, hockey, American football, and traveling to new cities.
Below are some case studies I’ve worked on:
Case Studies
Emphasizing Usability and Accessibility
Cognizant (formerly Devbridge)
I have worked primarily on one large project during my time with Devbridge. It spans multiple workstreams, where I lead the design team and coach the client’s internal design team on adoption of our design system for the rest of their internal products.
New ActiveDisclosure
The goal of this platform is to offer users an editor product, similar to Microsoft Word, to upload your financial documentation, review it/edit it, and file it with the SEC. This offers users the ability to upload documents, add comments, tag/annotate information, tag individuals, and review changes - all while being able to change fonts, line weight, table sizes, headers, page colors, and more.
Tools: Figma, Miro, and Azure (ADO).
Vokal.io
I worked hand in hand with engineers to create both mobile and desktop applications at Vokal. We created MVP versions and iterations of applications. Below are a few of my favorite projects:
Voyager
For this project, I managed the full process of this case study from UX Research to Visual Design.
I worked hand in hand with engineers, stakeholders, and product managers to create an immigration platform focused on providing the most transparent experience possible for all users. I created the MVP designs and ensured each user type was accounted for from Attorneys to individuals seeking sponsorship.
Tools: AdobeXD, Figma, Miro, Coda, and the Google Suite.
Motor Werks Perks
For this project, I managed the design process of this case study from a Visual Design and Information Architecture perspective.
I worked hand in hand with engineers, stakeholders, and product managers to create an application that can track the rewards you get as you purchase cars and perform maintenance on them. The app was made for iOS and Android and is currently in both stores ready for download.
Tools: AdobeXD, Figma, and the Google Suite.
Personal Projects
Here are some additional projects that I’ve worked on as I learned about UX and honed my skills.
duet.: Dating through Musical Compatibility
For this project, I managed the full process of this case study from UX Research to Visual Design.
I created a dating app that utilizes your taste in music as a large compatibility factor for finding matches. The goal is to find someone who shares similar interests to you who you can share your playlists with.
Tools: AdobeXD, Figma, Procreate, and Photoshop.
Terminus: Bus Tracking Application
For this project, I managed the full process of this case study from UX Research to Wireframing and Prototyping to Visual Design.
Specifically, I utilized the Double Diamond Design Thinking process to create this application from scratch.
Tools: Figma, InVision, Photoshop, and Miro.
My Daily Nosh: Designing Grocery and Recipe Experiences
For this project, I was exclusively the Visual Designer.
Redesigning the UI of a machine learning app that finds recipes based on the food in your fridge and helps you set up grocery lists.
Tools: AdobeXD, Figma, and Vecteezy.
Pharaoh’s Purse: 8-bit Video Game UI Redesign
For this team project, I was the Content and Storyteller Lead, UX Researcher, and Visual Designer.
This was a game redesign where we utilized existing pixel artwork to redesign the user flows and increase the game's usability and accessibility.
Tools: Figma, Zeplin, Photoshop, Sketch, and Maze.
LocalEyez: Designing Personalized Experiences
For this project, I was exclusively the Visual Designer.
The goal of this was to design the interface of a machine learning application to find nearby events you’d be interested in.
Tools: Sketch, Figma, and InVision.
